Quality Afterschool Programming
BEACON is an afterschool program that provides an intentional blend of enrichment and academic assistance support for students in Grand County, Utah. Each year we consistently serve between 250 and 300 students and offer more than 160 enrichment clubs each year. Our program has been operating since 2005 and serves more than half of Grand County students in the K-8 age range. We consistently serve children and youth from marginalized families with more than 45 percent of our students qualifying for the free and reduced lunch program. BEACON also offers information and events for families throughout the school year and meaningful opportunities for local businesses and organizations to support children and families in the community as community partners and funding sponsors.

Academic Support
At the elementary level, BEACON offers small group tutoring for students by grade level. The academic program is based on teacher referral and BEACON staff works closely with teachers who identify areas that need further skill development. BEACON staff follows-up with teachers throughout the year to ensure that students are supported and making good progress academically. We have found over the past few years, that more than 50 percent of BEACON students at risk of failure improved their grades in math and language arts.
Tutoring is offered for elementary students Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, students in the academic program are enrolled in enrichment clubs, giving them an opportunity to enjoy other activities through our enrichment clubs. Our academic program is no cost to families. To request assistance for your student, please complete this form and return it to the BEACON office at your child's school.
Middle School students receive tutoring or homework help from a staff of trained academic coaches. Teachers also refer students to BEACON for homework academic support and BEACON staff checks grades and academic standing to help identify areas where we can be of the most help to students. Students who complete their work and/or are in good academic standing can participate in enrichment clubs that are offered, hang out with supervision, unstructured hang out time, or remain in the library with their friends.
